How to vote in the Borough Council elections
Register to vote.
The deadline to register to vote for the elections taking place in May 2023 is 11:59pm on 17th April.
How do I register to vote?
Registering to vote is easy – you can now do it online!
It takes about 5 minutes.
- Go to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
- Fill in your name, address, date of birth and a few other details. You’ll also need your National Insurance number, which can be found on your National Insurance card, or in official paperwork such as payslips, or letters about benefits or tax credits.
- Look out for confirmation from your local registration staff to say you’re registered.

Voter ID
From 4 May 2023, voters in England will need to show photo ID to vote at polling stations in some elections.
This will apply to:
- Local elections
- Police and Crime Commissioner elections
- UK parliamentary by-elections
- Recall petitions
- From October 2023 it will also apply to UK General elections.
If you don’t have accepted photo ID, you can apply for a free voter ID document, which is known as a Voter Authority Certificate.
